STANFORD — BYU’s relentless pressure was too much for UCSB to handle as the No. 8-ranked Cougars ran over the Gauchos 2-0 in the first-round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament Thursday.
BYU peppered the Gaucho goal with 12 shots. The wave of attacks forced an own goal by UCSB in the 12th minute. A clearing pass in the box hit a Gaucho player and ricocheted into the net for a 1-0 Cougar lead.

Alyssa Vander Veur made it 2-0 in the 38th minute, scoring off an assist from Jennie Marshall.
UCSB goalkeeper Tammy Lenham was busy all game. She had 10 saves.
The Gauchos had only three shots on goal.
UCSB, the Big West Tournament champion, finished the year at 9-10-3. BYU (18-3-2) advances to the second round on Saturday against either top-seeded Stanford for Northern Arizona.
