Two goals by Concordia’s Darlene Uriarte resulted in the second Golden State Athletic Conference loss of the season for Westmont women’s soccer (4-4-1, 2-2 GSAC) as the Warriors fell to the seventeenth-ranked Eagles (6-2-2, 3-1 GSAC) by a final score of 2-0.
Westmont took only four shots during the contest compared to 10 by the Eagles. The Warriors best chance to score came in the forty-third minute when Jameisha Washington blasted a shot from 20 yards out on the left side toward the upper left-hand corner. But Concordia keeper Bekah Garvin punched the ball away to prevent the equalizer. It was Garvin’s only save of the game.
Uriarte’s first goal came in the thirtieth minute when she beat her defender and scored from 15 yards out in the center of the field. In the eighty-seventh minute, Shannon Smith sent a free kick from 30 yards near the left side line to the front of the goal. Uriarte finished from three yards.
With the loss, Westmont falls to 4-4-1 overall and 2-2 in GSAC play. Concordia improved to 6-2-2 overall and 3-1 in the GSAC.
The Warriors return to the pitch on Tuesday, October 13 with a seven o’clock game at Fresno Pacific.
