Senior middle blocker Katey Lowry recorded 12 kills and posted an attack percentage of .556 as the Warriors notched their second Golden State Athletic Conference sweep of the weekend by defeating San Diego Christian 25-19, 25-22, 25-18. The Warriors (15-11, 6-10 GSAC) tallied a team attack percentage of .333.
With an 8-9 advantage in the first set, Lowry delivered a kill and Kristin Schroeder served two aces to give the Warriors a 12-8 lead. After a kill by San Diego Christians’ Courtney Barlow, Westmont scored twice on Hawk errors to take a 14-9 lead and establish the margin by which they would win the first set.
In the second set, San Diego Christian held an 18-14 advantage causing Westmont head coach Jim Smoot to call a timeout. The Warriors responded with an 11-4 run to take a two-set-to-none lead in the match.
The Warriors took control of the third set midway through. Leading 16-15, Westmont produced a 5-0 run fueled by three of Lowry’s kills. After a kill by the Hawk’s Sarah Aguilar, the Warriors closed out the set and the match with a 4-2 run.
Senior right side hitter Stephanie Dunn recorded seven kills for Westmont and a .357 attack percentage. Elisse Wolff contributed six kills with a .333 attack percentage and Kate Barton pounded the ball down five times without making an error for a .500 attack percentage.
Candace Adema set the Warriors up with 22 assists while Schroeder and Erin Dohm each had 10 digs.
Westmont will play two games at home next week. On Tuesday, the Warriors will welcome the #10 Lions of Vanguard (15-9, 9-6 GSAC) for a seven o’clock game. Then on Saturday, Westmont will host #11 Biola Eagles (17-8, 8-6 GSAC), also at seven o’clock.
