Mackenzie Walsh and the Cate girls cross country team blazed to a second-place finish at the Brentwood Invitational on Saturday, beating out 12 other teams thanks in large part to Walsh’s strong race.
The senior knocked out the 3-mile course in 19 minutes and 24 seconds, good for fourth place overall. Sophomores Adrian Walsh and Denali Tietjen, who finished 2nd and 3rd behind Walsh at the first Condor League meet, placed 16th and 17th respectively.
Spencer McAvoy posted a personal best for the boys team, which recorded a ninth-place result. McAvoy broke 18 minutes for the first time and came in 34th place.
