The Bishop Diego girls volleyball team started with a bang on Thursday but ran out of steam, taking St. Bonaventure to four games in a 21-25, 25-12, 25-20, 25-16 Tri-Valley League loss at The Brickhouse.
“We came out guns blazing,” was how Cardinals head coach Joe Reiken put it. “After that we puttered out.”
St. Bonaventure, ranked No. 5 in Div. II-A, quickly turned it around, jumping out to a 9-1 lead in the second set.
“Before we could even blink it was 9-1,” Reiken said, adding that his team came back stronger in the third game.
Lauren Underwood recorded 11 kills and Paige Sleep tallied five. Sophomore libero Nicole Tetherow collected 25 digs.
Bishop has another league match on Tuesday, this one on the road at Malibu.
