Rebecca Saraceno continued her impressive senior season by notching her third Big West Player of the Week award, the conference announced on Monday. The Redondo Beach native also was awarded with the conference honor for the weeks of Sept. 7 and Sept. 28.
Saraceno tallied 82 kills in three matches last week, an incredible average of 5.86 kills per set in wins over Pepperdine, Pacific and a five-set loss to UC Davis. She had a pair of double-doubles – giving her 11 on the year – while also totaling five blocks and four service aces in the team’s three matches. For the week, Saraceno hit an impressive .315.
Against Pepperdine, Saraceno blasted 27 kills and had 16 digs, falling shy of her season-bests in each category by two. She matched her season-best with three block assists in the four-set win.
On Friday against Pacific, Saraceno again had 27 kills while also tallying 10 digs, for her 11th double-double of the season. She hit .333 against the Tigers.
The following night, Saraceno did everything she could to help the Gauchos knock of UC Davis, putting down 28 kills (one shy of her career-best) while getting nine digs. She was the only UCSB player to tally double-digit kills in the team’s first home loss of the season. She hit at a .362 clip vs. the Aggies.
Saraceno has put away 359 kills this season and is currently just 48 kills away from tying Maria Reyes (1988-90) for 10th all-time in school history in career kills.
UCSB takes to the road next week before returning home to face Cal State Fullerton on Friday, Oct. 30 and Long Beach State on Halloween night.
