The San Marcos boys water polo team went 1-1 at the San Luis Obispo Tournament on Friday, nabbing an impressive 10-6 comeback win over St. Joseph before falling to Las Lomas 19-6.
The Royals trailed 4-0 after the first quarter against the Knights but stormed back by winning the second quarter 4-1 and the second half 6-1.
Andre Rivera had four goals in the game and Travis Frohlich added three. Coach Jeff Ashton said that the Royals played excellent team defense in the second half, with a particularly good performance coming from Tyler Lisea.
Rivera and Frohlich each tallied hat tricks against Las Lomas but San Marcos couldn’t keep up.
“We were always a step behind on defense and gave up too many fast-break opportunities,” said Asthon.
Chris Bebb had seven saves against St. Joseph and six against Las Lomas.
The Royals (9-8) continue tournament play tomorrow.
