Missing pairs of shoes, blisters and the unavailability of their top two players had the San Marcos Royals in a tough situation heading into Thursday’s girls tennis match at Ventura.
San Marcos went a perfect 9-0 in doubles, however, and got big wins in singles from Nicolette Leslie and Chloe Maassen to down the Cougars 11-7. The Royals finish the regular season with an impressive mark of 11-4 overall and 6-2 in the Channel League.
“It looked like it was going to be very close after the first round, but a big win from Leslie and Liz Morris/Parisa Fallahi in doubles gave us an edge going into round three,” noted coach Megan Cotich.
The coach also pointed out the Amy Kinsella and Shelby Zylstra rolled through their matches quickly so that they were able to cheer on their teammates.
