Roby’s goal one-ups Northridge

NORTHRIDGE Katy Roby’s goal in the 83rd minute broke a 2-2 tie and proved to be the game winner as the UCSB women’s soccer team ended a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 win at Cal State Northridge Sunday afternoon.

The Gauchos (4-7-1, 1-1-0 in the Big West) wasted little time getting on the board. Jacqui Simon fed Kailyn Kugler for the first goal of the match just 34 seconds in to give UCSB a 1-0 lead.

An own goal by UCSB’s Kathleen Matthew in the 75th minute gave CSUN some momentum and Townley collected her team-leading sixth goal of the season on a one-time feed from Brielle Slepicoff in the 78th to tie the contest. It was Slepicoff’s first assist of the season.

The goal by Townley set the stage for Roby’s late-game heroics.
