Moorpark used a solid passing attack Tuesday night to give visiting SBCC something it hadn’t experienced in more than seven weeks — a women’s volleyball loss.
The Raiders, ranked No. 3 in the state, toppled the seventh-ranked Vaqueros 25-20, 25-27, 25-19, 25-19 to improve to 13-1 and 3-0 in the WSC North. SBCC (12-2, 1-1) had its school-record 12-match win streak snapped.
Maria Mayer had 12 kills while Jenn Waddill pounded 10 and hit .444. Jessica Tune added nine putaways for the Vaqueros.
“They passed a lot better than we did,” said SBCC coach Ed Gover. “It made it tough to run our offense.
“It was a good match between the No. 3 and 7 teams in the state. We lost tonight, now we need to get them back in our gym.”
The Vaqueros will be at home on Friday at 7 p.m. to take on Hancock.
