No matter the 13-5 final score, both Dana Hills and Santa Barbara got what they wanted on Friday afternoon.
The visiting Dolphins, the No. 1 team in Div. I, might have been a little too much for the Dons, ranked No. 2 in Div. II, but each side was upbeat after the match for the same reasons.
“Twelve-six, 13-5, 11-7, I don’t care,” said Dons head coach Steve Geremia. “Our objective was to come out and play good tennis today and we did that.”
Ariel Beckerman, who came through with the day’s biggest win against Dana Hills’ No. 1 player, agreed with her coach.
“We did really well,” she said “A lot of the matches could have gone either way so the score might have been lopsided but it was close match.”
Dana Hills, the two-time defending champions in Division I, closed out the season with an unblemished 16-0 record.
“This is the reason we play good teams at the end, to keep us focused for the main goal,” said Dana Hills head coach Mark Spearman, who uses the overnight trip as a team-bonding opportunity.
