Danny Molineaux scored a hat trick Friday night, leading the resurgent SBCC men’s soccer squad to a 3-1 win over Canyons at La Playa Stadium.
It was the fifth straight win for the Vaqueros (5-5-2, 5-0-1), who are 5-0 in October. They took a four-point lead atop the WSC standings with their second triumph over a second-place team in four days. SBCC, the defending WSC champion, is 18-1-1 in its last 20 conference matches.
Molineaux, a sophomore from England, scored in the sixth, 30th and 65th minutes to give the Vaqueros a 3-0 lead. Stuart Kirk, Memo Gonzalez and Danny Rodriguez picked up the assists.
“They were all very good goals,” said coach John Sisterson. “The boys worked hard this week in training and it paid off.”
The Vaqueros will complete the first round of WSC play on Tuesday at Hancock.
