SANTA MARIA — Dos Pueblos gathered quick momentum in this non-league football game Friday night.
The Chargers just couldn’t hold it.
Dos Pueblos wide receiver Brandon Tangel worked his way open down the sidelines and gathered in touchdown passes of 44 yards from Zach Boytis and 67 yards from Matthew Soto in the first half.
Righetti, though, scored the last 35 points for a 42-17 win at Warrior Stadium.
The Warriors moved to 3-2 as Righetti running back Michael Hale ran for a total of 292 yards, and four touchdowns, on 25 carries. The Chargers are 2-2.
Righetti wiped out a 17-7 first-half deficit. Cory Micheel gave the Chargers a 10-0 lead on a 17-yard field goal with 2:08 left in the first quarter.
“Give credit to Righetti,” Dos Pueblos coach Jeff Uyesaka said afterward. “That offensive line is massive… It didn’t help that we lost our starting quarterback.”
Boytis, the Chargers’ starter, went out in the first half after taking a shot on a hard tackle at the Righetti 3 in the second quarter. Backup Matthew Soto came in and threw the 67-yard touchdown pass to Tangel his second series. Boytis returned to the game in the Chargers’ first series of the second half.
“We kept at it,” said Uyesaka. “We kept fighting.”
