Junior utility player Milos Golic was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Mikasa Co-Player of the Week on Monday after posting a season-best six goals during Saturday’s four-overtime thriller at Long Beach State.
Trailing 6-4 in the third quarter, Golic tallied three consecutive goals to give UCSB a 7-6 lead with 7:11 to go in regulation play. Then, with the game tied at eight-all, Golic notched a goal with 2:31 to go on a penalty shot, giving UCSB a 9-8 advantage. Long Beach was able to tie the game in the waning minutes of regulation play and eventually won in sudden-victory overtime, 11-10.
In addition to his six goals, Golic also tallied a steal and earned two ejections.
The six goals marked the third-highest single-game total in the MPSF this season and also helped move Golic into fourth-place on the Gaucho all-time scoring list with 177 career goals.
The Belgrade, Serbia native has tallied a total of 42 goals this season and has moved into second among MPSF players with his 2.47 goals per game average. Fellow MPSF Co-Player of the Week, Drac Wigo, leads the conference with an average of 3.00 goals per game.
UCSB has a busy week ahead. The Gauchos will host top-ranked USC on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Campus Pool before hitting the road to play Santa Clara on Friday and Stanford on Saturday.
