It wasn’t Santa Barbara High’s best match of the year, but the Dons came away from Thursday’s girls volleyball game with a 24-26, 25-15, 25-23, 25-23 victory at Ventura.
“We mixed up the lineup a little bit. We didn’t come out very strong, and Ventura was fired up. They’ve gotten better,” said Dons assistant coach Lee Carlander.
Katie Villanueva had eight blocks and Sarah Mendoza added 15 digs. Emily Rottman chipped in a team-high 17 kills and shoveled up 15 digs while Eve Ettinger had 16 kills. Kari Garcia put away five kills.
Carlander said that new Cougars coach Jared Godinez is doing a great job with the program.
Next up is another showdown with top-ranked Dos Pueblos on Tuesday.
“We feel good. We’re looking forward to playing them at our place,” said Carlander.
