Freshman Kelly Deckers notched her 13th goal on a rainy Friday afternoon and added a second-half assist in SBCC’s 2-0 women’s socccer victory at Oxnard.
Deckers, the fourth-leading scorer in the state with 31 points, scored in the 22nd minute on an assist from Margot Valenzuela. In the 74th minute, Courtney Belsheim converted a close shot after taking a cross from Deckers.
It was the first game in 11 days for the Vaqueros (7-1-4, 2-0-1 WSC), who are ranked 14th in Southern California.
“You could tell we took more than a week off,” said coach John Sisterson. “We were a little rusty. We did a good job of controlling the possession on a tough, slippery field.”
It was the eighth shutout of the year for goalie Meghan Maiwald and the defense. The Vaqueros have outscored their last four opponents 15-1 and for the year, they’ve scored 30 goals while allowing just four.
SBCC plays at Cuesta on Friday at 3 p.m.
