Rio Mesa’s strong singles side was too much to stomach for the Dos Pueblos girls tennis team without Lauren Stratman, as the Chargers fell 12-6 to the Spartans in a non-league contest.
With the Stratman out with the flu, Rio Mesa’s Sonia Landeros, Jessica Vizents and Isabella Xiong went unscathed on the day.
Kim Preston and Nicole Eskenazi gave DP two sets from its top doubles team and Katie O’Brien/Rachel Amspoker claimed two more. Sophia Rasmussen won sets with Hanna Shmitz and Oriane Mattys, and almost won another with Mattys against the Spartans’ No. 1 team.
The Chargers (8-9), already assured a playoff spot as the No. 3 team from the Channel League, face Santa Barbara on Tuesday before wrapping up the regular season on Friday against Santa Ynez.
