Dos Pueblos junior Sergey Sushchikh won the fifth straight race he’s
competed in, leading the Dos Pueblos boys team to an improved result at the
season’s second Channel League cross country meet on Thursday.
Santa Barbara’s Briggs Deardorff ran a personal best on the Arroyo Verde
course to come in second. Sushchikh beat out Deardorff by seven seconds
with a winning time of 16 minutes and 37 seconds.
The Chargers girls team placed five runners in the top 15 to repeat as team
champions at league meet No. 2. Even better, Kelly Kosmo (2), Emma Campbell
(4) and Lauren Guthrie (5) recorded important top-5 fininishes.
Freshman Bryan Fernandez ran DP’s second-fastest race on the boys side,
clocking in at 17:25, as he and Sushchikh helped the Chargers close the gap
between them and team-winner Ventura.
Dos Pueblos, second to Ventura in each of the first two league meets, was
closer to the Cougars this time around.
San Marcos was third in girls and fourth in boys. The Royals girls are tied for third with Ventura heading into the Channel League Championships, Nov. 5 at Camino Real Park in Ventura.
