The Cate water polo team got into the win column for the first time this season with a convincing 22-7 victory Wednesday at Channel Islands.
Led by senior Captain Brett Diemer’s career high seven goals, Cate’s offense broke out of its scoring slump in style, jumping out to a 15-4 halftime lead. Juniors Cameron Whiting and Brian Warren’s shooting and speed contributed four goals apiece, while seniors Christian Lowe and Brent Bennett netted three goals and two goals respectively. First-year varsity player Edward Townsend rounded out the scoring with two goals.
Cate’s defense also firmed up, only allowing three kickouts. Cate plays cross-town rival Carpinteria at 3:45 Friday at the Carpinteria community pool.
