Cardinals cause Lions minor problems

The Bishop Diego girls volleyball team took more of a glancing blow than a direct hit on Thursday, falling to Oaks Christian 25-19, 25-21, 25-17 at the Brickhouse.

Nicole Tetherow picked up 15 digs for the Cardinals while Janelle Kohler and Lauren Underwood knocked down five kills each.

“We had a respectable showing,” said Cardinals head coach Joe Reiken, whose team was even with the Lions late into each game before trailing off. “To be playing as well as we are against a top-5 team is really inspiring.”

Oaks Christian, No. 5 in Div. II-A, is tied for first in the Tri-Valley League with Oak Park and La Reina.

Bishop Diego, which has two league win this season, faces three matches next week. A trip to Oak Park is on Monday, followed by La Reina on Tuesday and Carpinteria on Thursday.
