Jesse Orosco, born in Santa Barbara in 1957, played for the Dons in the 1970’s and would go on to enjoy a 24-year MLB career that included two World Series rings with the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers. Orosco holds the major league record for career pitching appearances.
Orosco struck out the final batter in the 1986 Series for the Mets to eliminate the Boston Red Sox, famously throwing his glove in the air and dropping to his knees. In 1988, Orosco earned his second world title while pitching for the Dodgers.
