Laguna Blanca’s building year continued on Saturday as the Laguna Blanca football team went to Santa Maria and fell to Valley Christian for the first time ever, 46-0.
There were two new faces helping the Owls in the game, as German senior Sebastian Koch and Danish classmate Hans Steenstrup helped to bolster the defense, but Laguna allowed the floodgates to open late in the first half.
Quarterback Troy Ritter threw two hard-luck interceptions in the half, and the Lions were up 14-0 before a trick-play double-pass with seven seconds to go made it 20-0.
“Then the second half happened,” said coach Ray Robitaille, who added that his young team is taking its licks with the right attitude.
“They know it’s a building year and that we have to go back to the basics to start growing for next year,” he said.
The Owls (0-3) will have a bye week to rest up before hosting Rolling Hills Prep on October 10th.
