SBCC had several near misses in Sunday’s third-place game at the Mt. SAC Tournament and went on to drop a 1-0 men’s soccer decision to Richland, Texas. It marked the first shutout in 23 games for the Vaqueros (0-2-1).
“Melvin Yekeh hit a thunder ball that the goalie didn’t see but it glanced off his arm and Memo Garcia had a diving header in the second half that missed by inches,” said Vaquero coach John Sisterson. “They had a PK in the 60th minute and (SBCC goalie) Yohna Adrabi made a great save.”
Richland found the net off a corner kick in the 65th minute.
“This is a young squad and we’re coming along,” Sisterson added. “Peter Aguilar (Santa Barbara High) and Arturo Alvarez (Carpinteria High) both played well.”
SBCC will make its home debut on Sept. 15 with a 1 p.m. game against San Bernardino.
