Leah Sully had 14 kills and Rebecca Saraceno contributed 13, as the UCSB women’s volleyball team beat Seattle University comfortably, 3-1 (25-10, 25-23, 22-25, 25-13), Friday evening at Mott Gym. The match marked the Gauchos’ first contest of the two-match Mission Inn of Pismo Beach Invitational.
With the win, the Gauchos improved to 7-2, while Seattle falls to 3-10. UCSB has now won six of their last seven contests.
Sully also had a team-high 14 digs, proving she can contribute both in the air and on the defensive side of the ball. Setter Dana Vargas had 42 assists on the night. Three Gauchos hit over .400 on the night- Stacey Schmidt (9-1-16-.500), Lily Lopez (7-2-1-.417), and Charlene DeHoog (4-0-9-.444).

For the Redhawks, Cristin Richards led her team in attempts with 47, but only connected on 16, for a .106 average. Richards notched a match-high 3 service aces. Jamie Melles had 35 assists.
The Gauchos out-hit the Redhawks as a team, .349 to .073. The Redhawks opened the match by hitting -.080 (5-7-25) and ended the match with a -.167 (5-9-24) average in the fourth frame. UCSB hit .500 and .526 in those to sets, respectively.
The Gauchos close out the Mission Inn of Pismo Beach Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, September 19th, with a match against west coast spud, Idaho Vandals, at 2:00 pm in Mott Gym before returning home to host Loyola Marymount next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Thunderdome.
