Following the best week of her career, the accolades continue to pile up for UC SB women’s volleyball player Rebecca Saraceno. A day after being named the Big West’s Player of the Week and SBART Athlete of the Week, Saraceno was named the Sports Imports/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I National Player of the Week.
It is the first time a Gaucho has been named one of the national players of the week since Kristin Nelson garnered the honor in 2004. It is the sixth time overall a player from UCSB has received a Sports Imports/AVCA national player of the week award.
Saraceno had a tremendous week, capping it off with a brilliant performance last Saturday when the Gauchos knocked off No. 21 UC Irvine. Against UC Riverside in the Big West opener on Friday she had 12 kills and 11 digs and then on Saturday she had 15 digs to go with her 29 kills. The 29 putaways are third all-time in school history under the rally-scoring format. For the week she also hit a robust .328.
This is the seventh honor Saraceno has already received this season. She has twice been named the Big West Player of the Week, twice been named the UCSBgauchos.com Athlete of the Week and has also been on two All-Tournament Teams.
UCSB is 11-2, its best start since the 2002 season, and has beaten three teams in the Top-25.
