The Dos Pueblos boys water polo team is in the hunt for its best ever result at the ultra-competetive South Coast Tournament, having won two matches on Thursday to reach Friday’s quarterfinals.
The Chargers, ranked No. 4 in Div. I, beat Tustin 11-6 and Los Alamitos 10-5 to make a date with No. 2 El Toro on Friday at 5 p.m.
DP’s best finish in the past was a seventh place last year.
Kevin Cappon and Chase Racich combined for seven goals against Tustin while Chargers head coach Chris Parrish praised Zach Rearden and Tracy Baker for their contributions off the bench.
Parrish was even more pleased with the Los Alamitos game, as the Chargers defense kept Los Al off the scoreboard until halfway through the third period.
Brady Moore was a force in goal in that game, stopping 10 shots and adding three assists. Parrish singled out Conner Cleary for his defensive effort.
“It didn’t show up in the box score, but Conner shut down their best player all night,” Parrish said.
With the two victories, DP’s season record improves to 9-3.
