Former Santa Barbara High star Daniel Nguyen and partner JT Sundling of Thousand Oaks make their U.S. Open debut Thursday morning against Argentina’s Maximo Gonzalez and Juan Monaco. The match is scheduled for 10 a.m. PDT.
Nguyen-Sundling, teammates at USC, earned a wild-card berth into the Open’s main draw by winning the USTA Boys 18 doubles championship in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Gonzalez-Monaco have been professional players since 2002. Monaco has won $2.5 million in his career. He is ranked 41st in the world in singles and 57th in doubles. Gonzalez holds rankings of 79 in singles and 63 in doubles. He advanced to the U.S. Open doubles semifinals last year with a different partner.
