Jackie Harvey put down 21 kills on Tuesday night as the Laguna Blanca girls volleyball team remained undefeated with a 25-11, 25-17, 25-17 over visiting Bishop Diego at Merovick Gym on Tuesday.
“It was the hardest I’ve seen the girls play all year,” said Owls coach Jim Alzina. “Tonight I saw them play with a passion that I haven’t seen except for maybe the finals of our tournament.”
Amanda Schulenberg, who never sees action in the back row, rotated all the way through in the match and fit right in, scooping up 10 digs and even going on a 6-0 run at the service line.
McKenna Hogue had six blocks and four kills for Bishop Diego, while coach Joe Reiken was also very impressed with the play of outside hitter Diana Sleep. Annette Gonzales turned in a solid defensive effort with 10 digs.
“Laguna is a good team with way more weapons than us, but I was a little disappointed we didn’t come out ready to execute our gameplan,” said Reiken. “We’re gonna keep working and pushing and get ready to face Oak Park.”
Jessie Ditmore had six kills and Amanda Harvey had 10 digs for the Owls, who are now 5-0. Bishop Diego falls to 1-1.
