Football slate starts early this week at Peabody

After a Week 1 weekend in which most of our local football teams were on the road, Santa Barbara, Dos Pueblos, Carpinteria and Bishop Diego will all be hosting games this week.

It will be the home opener for all but Dos Pueblos, Carpinteria – who’ve already had theirs – and San Marcos, which travels north to Lompoc on Friday and has its home opener the following Friday against Hueneme.

The varsity game is at 7 p.m. Santa Barbara is coming off of a 28-0 defeat from Oxnard and will try to do better against the Beverly Hills Normans, who lost to Long Beach’s Jordan 34-7 in their opener. Beverly Hills won last year’s matchup 37-28 in Los Angeles.

San Marcos and Dos Pueblos play North County schools. San Marcos travels to Lompoc, which has traditionally been a tough place for the Royals to win. Lompoc is 0-2, and will be enjoying its home opener after having lost its first two games on the road to Nipomo and Santa Ynez. This will be the fourth straight year the San Marcos and Lompoc have locked up, with the Braves winning the previous three decisions.

Dos Pueblos holds a similar streak in its series with Cabrillo having defeated the Conqs the past three seasons, including last year’s 19-17 victory in Lompoc.

The Cardinals hosts Fillmore at La Playa Stadium at  7:30 p.m. Both teams are seeking their first wins.

As is Carpinteria, which hosts a 1-1 Nipomo team. The Titans put up 35 points in a Week Zero win over Lompoc but then were shut out last week in a loss to Arroyo Grande.
