Dos Pueblos junior Sergey Sushchikh was absolutely outstanding for the Charger cross-country team Saturday, winning the 115-competitor boys race at the Morro Bay Invitational with a time of 14:43.
“No DP guy has won the race since Will Yochum did his senior year (2006-07), and Will only ran a 15:16. Sergey is showing that he has what it takes to be one of the legends,” said coach Leslie Wiggins-Roth.
Junior Kelly Kosmo was the top DP finisher in the girls race (95 total runners), finishing eighth with a time of 18:48. Wiggins-Roth said that the DP girls “blew away” their PRs from last season in the race, which kept no official team scores. DP’s top four girls all finished 25th or better with times under 20 minutes.
Young freshman Bryan Fernandez showed immense potential on the boys side while finishing 17th in 16:05, and a total of seven Charger boys clocked in under 17 minutes.
Next up for DP is the Ojai Invitational on Saturday at Lake Casitas.
