Sami Hill, the outstanding goalie for the Dos Pueblos High girls water polo team, has made a commitment to play her college ball at UCLA.
Hill’s stellar play in the cage has been instrumental in the Chargers winning back-to-back CIF Southern Section championships. She comes into her senior season after helping the U.S. Junior National team to a bronze medal this summer at the FINA Junior World Championships in Siberia.
Santa Barbara area players have had a big impact in the UCLA program over the years. Former local prep standouts who have helped the Bruins win NCAA titles include, Kelly Easterday, Thalia Munro and Molly Cahill, all Santa Barbara High graduates.
Easterday, a junior for the Bruins, played on the 2008 and 2009 NCAA championships teams. Cahill has been part of four water polo titles – three as a student-athlete (2005-07) and one as undergraduate assistant coach in 2008. She was recently named the team’s assistant coach. Munro played on three title teams — 2001, ’05 and ’06. She took the 2003-04 season off to train with the U.S. National team for the Olympics. She won a bronze medal at the Athens Games.
