SBCC came alive in the second half on Friday night with two goals in a five-minute span and went on to blank L.A. Harbor 2-0 in a women’s soccer match at Wilmington.
Alyson Johnson notched the first goal in the 75th minute off a corner kick by Casey Rubin and Kelly Deckers scored her fifth goal in the 79th after the goalie couldn’t hold onto a 40-yard blast by Jamie Kucharski. The Vaqueros (3-1) bounced back from a rare home loss on Tuesday to L.A. Pierce.
With two minutes remaining, goalie Meghan Maiwald made “a great save,” according to coach John Sisterson, on a 20-yard free kick. It was the third shutout of the year for Maiwald and her 16th in the last two seasons.
SBCC returns to action on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. home date against Santa Monica.
