Jamie Kucharski scored two goals Tuesday night and Kelly Deckers added a late score as SBCC blanked L.A. Mission 3-0 in its women’s soccer home opener.
The Vaqueros (2-0) improved to 16-1-5 in their last 22 games at La Playa Stadium.
Kucharski, a sophomore defender, converted a header in the 35th minute on an assist from Alyson Johnson for the only score of the first half. In the 65th minute, Kucharski blasted a free kick into the upper right corner from 40 yards out.
“It took us a while to get going,” said SBCC coach John Sisterson. “We missed Casey Rubin (who was injured) in the middle. They pressured us high and we couldn’t really settle on the ball. We didn’t pass the ball as we know we can.”
Deckers collected her fourth goal in two games on a shot from 22 yards in the 79th minute. Melanie Menin got the assist after some nifty dribbling.
SBCC will play host to L.A. Pierce on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.
