Dos Pueblos locked up a semifinal spot in the Riverside Invitational Tournament with a routine 15-10 victory over Murrietta Valley on Friday.
The Chargers (6-2) separated themselves in the second quarter, when they outscored Murrietta Valley 5-2 to take a 8-3 halftime lead. DP head coach Chris Parrish was able to pull starting goalkeeper Brady Moore, who had six saves, two blocks and an assist, after 3 1/2 quarters with the game in hand.
Kevin Cappon led the attack with six goals. Derek Shoemaker recorded a team-high four steals and Christian Terpening had a team-high four assists. Shoemaker and Terpening also combined for five goals.
“It was our best all-round showing so far this season,” said Parrish, happy to get such varied contributions from so many players.
DP’s semifinal starts at 10 a.m. and the Chargers will face the winner of Friday night’s Laguna Beach-Montebello matchup. If they win, the Chargers, No. 4 in Div. I, could face Loyola, No. 3, in the finals.
