Courtney Belsheim scored on a header in the 82nd minute on Sunday afternoon, helping the SBCC women’s soccer team gain a 1-1 tie with Cabrillo College in Aptos.
Danielle Jones assisted on the goal. The Vaqueros, playing their third game in three days, are 4-1-3 after going 1-0-2 on their Northern California trip.
“It was a tough 72 hours but we showed a lot of character,” said coach John Sisterson, whose team has outscored its opponents 17-3.
SBCC fell behind 1-0 in the third minute on a 6-yard free kick after the referee ruled that Nicole Carver made a back pass to goalie Meghan Maiwald.
“The ball ricocheted off Nicole but the ref said it was a pass,” noted Sisterson. “I was really pleased with how we fought back.”
Sisterson said his team had several solid scoring chances in the second half, including a 20-yard blast by Kelly Deckers that the Cabrillo goalie saved with a diving effort.
The Vaqueros will host Taft on Friday at 1 p.m. in their final nonconference game.
