Dos Pueblos announced its new head boys soccer coach late last week, elevating last year’s assistant Tovi Eliasen to succeed Jose Guerrero.
Eliasen said he is relishing the opportunity, excited to strengthen the program in such a strong soccer community.
“I think I work well with all the parents and athletic director (Dan Feldhaus). We have a great relationship back and forth,” Eliasen explained, commenting on how the team concept goes beyond the playing field. “The biggest change is that there will be a lot more organization.”
The Chargers finished their 2008-09 season with a 6-13-3 record, fourth in the Channel League. DP lost five seniors from last year’s team, including UNLV-bound defender Gustavo Hernandez, but return a solid core that is familiar with Eliasen as a coach.
“(Hernandez) was the rock of our defense, the biggest thing will be replacing him — but we should have a decent senior class,” noted Eliasen, whose day job is being a certified strength and conditioning specialist for his own Cool Brook Fitness.
Eliasen, originally from the Bay Area, played collegiately here in Santa Barbara at SBCC. He returned to Pleasonton where he was head coach at his old high school Valley Christian before returning to Santa Barbara in 2008.
Dos Pueblos also has two new coaches for the fall sports season in Todd Garrett (girls volleyball) and Suzy Dahl (girls tennis).
