Kelly Deckers scored her first collegiate goal in the 20th minute and went on to record a hat trick Friday afternoon as SBCC blanked Sequoias 7-0 in a season-opening women’s soccer match at Visalia.
Deckers, a freshman from Valencia High, also scored in the 66th and 70th minutes for the Vaqueros, who led 2-0 at halftime. Nicole Duque picked up her first college goal in the 34th minute on an assist from Elicity Fabing.
Margot Valenzuela had a goal and two assists, including a penalty kick in the 63rd minute that made it 3-0. The Vaqueros scored three times in seven minutes with Deckers finding the net in the 66th minute on a Valenzuela assist and again in the 70th minute on a solid strike from 20 yards. Casey Rubin set up Deckers’ third score.
Courtney Belsheim headed in a cross from Danielle Jones in the 87th minute and Jones completed the scoring two minutes later on an assist from Valenzuela.
SBCC opens a three-game homestand on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against L.A. Mission.
