John Loftus sailed to a 24-second victory in Wednesday’s Nite Moves 5k, beating out Carpinteria’s Ricky Ho with a time of 16 minutes and 40 seconds.
It was a large turnout with 220 competitors and male heavy at the top, with Ventura’s Carrie Welther being the first female finisher in 29th place. After Ho came Steve Harding, Justin Whittet and Aaron Kleefisch.
Chris Arntz shot to the front of the aquathon for the fourth straight week, but fell off his pace slightly from the week before and finished in 37:41.
Santa Barbaran Daniel Beal dominated the swim portion by a full minute, completing the 1k open-water loop in 13:26. Jim West came in second at 14:27 and Norbert Hoehne right behind at 14:28.
