Fuel TV is debuting its coverage of the 2009 Ultimate Boarder competition – created by Goleta native Tim Hoover – on Monday night at 8 p.m.
In its second year, the snow-surf-skate competition crowns a champion that performs best across all three board-riding disciplines – a new-age triathlon of sorts.
Hoover is hosting a viewing party at SandBar on State Street starting at 7 p.m. for those interested in watching it live with the event’s braintrust. For those that will be watching from home, Fuel TV is only available in the extended Cox Cable package on channel 269.
The week-long April event featured a bevy of local board sport athletes. Surfing icons Tom Curren and Shaun Tomson competed in the surfing leg at C-Street. Santa Ynez natives Robert Curtis, Logan & Luke Preston and Junior Brouillet competed in the solo division for the second straight year. Like Curren and Tomson, Kilian Garland and Spencer Regan competed only in surfing, while Sammy Baptista took part in the skateboarding leg for Team Wahoo’s.
Hoover’s Ultimate Boarder operation is based in Goleta, but the actual competition was held at Bear Mountain, Ventura’s C-Street and the Ventura County Fairgrounds.
