The Santa Barbara Volleyball Club 16-Blue team picked up a big win over Rockwood Thunder of St. Louis on Monday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Junior Olympics’ American Division in Miami.
Led by strong all-around performances from Meghan Smith and Amber Mirabello, the team came back from a 14-11 deficit in the third game to win 18-16.
“It was a pretty electric atmosphere and just a terrific match by us to be able to come back and win,” said assistant coach Dwayne Hauschild, who also cited the offensive prowess of Cheyenne Godinez.
The team will face off against Northern Lights of Minnesota in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
