Nick Scarvelis’ outstanding sophomore season for the Dos Pueblos track team came to an end Friday at the CIF Masters Meet in Cerritos. Scarvelis threw the discus 166 feet, 10 inches to finish eighth. The top five advance to the State Meet.
Scarvelis added 20 feet to the school record in the discus this season, and coach Dave Kuderka said that breaking Noah Bryant’s frosh/soph shot put record at the County Championships has been one of his biggest accomplishments.
Scarvelis will likely compete at Nationals in Michigan and also at the Golden West Invitational during the offseason.
“He’s obviously a little disappointed right now but I think he’ll wake up in the morning and re-focus and re-tool,” said Kuderka. “He hasn’t even started weightlifting yet, so once that begins this summer there’s even more achievements to come.”
