San Marcos picked up a win-or-go-home boys volleyball victory Thursday on Parents Night, sweeping the Cougars 25-12, 25-22, 25-23 to force a playoff match at Buena on Friday with a trip to the playoffs on the line.
Despite missing captain Erik Holliday due to illness, the Royals (13-9, 3-5) got 12 kills on 19 swings from sophomore Jackson Kunz. Coach Roger Kuntz started his seniors in each set and it paid off, as he said the team “was firing on all cylinders.
Chris Baird had five solo blocks and Jon Newton added four. Kuntz also said that Will Hayward and Michael York did a nice job distributing their sets evenly to the San Marcos hitters.
There was a coin-flip earlier in the week which determined Buena as the location for Friday’s match.
