Jon Newton and Kevin Davis played a strong match in the middle, but the San Marcos boys volleyball team was overpowered by host Long Beach Wilson in the first round of CIF Thursday, 25-15, 25-13, 25-14.
“They had eight seniors that I’ve been watching for a long time. They play a very fast-paced game and served strong to take advantage of our miscues,” said coach Roger Kuntz.
The senior-laden Royals finish the year at 14-10.
“We lose a lot of seniors that have been with us for a long time, and we’re proud of them,” said Kuntz. “We feel like we had a good season, and we got to see what the Division I playoffs are all about.”
While San Marcos graduates lots of key players, Kuntz pointed out that the JV squad took second in the Channel League and the frosh/soph team shared the title with DP.
