All the day’s scoring was done in the first inning of Dos Pueblos’ 2-1 softball win over visiting Santa Barbara on Thursday.
Jordan Roberts hit a two-run blast off the top of the scoreboard in left-field that proved to be enough for the Chargers, who had already clinched second place in the Channel League.
Santa Barbara, meanwhile, finishes a successful season at 10-13 overall and 2-10 in the Channel League. Before last week, the Dons had not won a league contest for over seven years.
“They’ve improved so much. It used to be an easy win, but our two wins against them were our toughest of the year,” said DP coach Lee Harris.
Andria Castagnola struck out six in 4-plus innings in the circle for DP before Hannah Harris finished things up. Rebecca Neilsen-Robbins had another strong outing for the Dons, allowing just six hits.
Dos Pueblos (14-13, 8-4) now awaits Monday’s release of the playoff brackets.
