Rams clinch back-to-back Condor crowns

Cate claimed its second consecutive Condor League baseball crown Tuesday with a 15-1 mercy-rule win over visiting Besant Hill.

“We shared it with Dunn last year, so the kids are really happy to win it outright,” said coach Ben Soto. “I’m really impressed with the progress the kids have made, and I think we’re peaking at the right time.”

Catcher Nathan Vice went 3-for-3 with a double, two singles, two RBIs and three runs scored in the game, while Jackson Mauze and John Warren also did a nice job hitting, according to Soto. The Rams (13-1, 9-0) host Dunn on Friday to close out the regular season. Cate’s graduation is a week from Sunday, which would mean that a deep enough playoff run could have the team playing with alumni on the roster.

“We’re hoping that’s the case, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it,” said Soto.
