Oaks Christian scores six in seventh to down Carp

Carpinteria’s baseball team bounced right back after giving up three runs to visiting Oaks Christian in the top of the first Friday, but the Lions kept bouncing back after that to prevail 11-5.

Nathan Saito led off the bottom of the first with his seventh homer and Isacc Cervantes hit a 3-run homer soon after that to make it 4-3 in favor of the Warriors heading into the second.

“It was a good response, but they have a lot of offense so we knew that a one-run lead probably wasn’t going to hold up,” said coach Pat Cooney.

Sure enough, the Lions added a pair in the top of the second, and Carpinteria tied it up in the bottom half on a run-scoring double-steal. It was all zeroes until the top of the seventh, when Oaks Christian exploded for six runs to put it away.

Tony Sanchez went 2-for-2 with two runs scored for the Warriors, who are now 5-3 in the Tri-Valley League and will likely have to split their remaining four games (two against Malibu, two against St. Bonaventure) to make the postseason.
