The Santa Barbara boys tennis team stretched its legs in the first round of the Division I CIF playoffs on Thursday, using 22 players in a 13-5 defeat of visiting West Torrance.
The No. 3-seeded Dons swept all nine doubles sets. Christian Wheeler and Matt Demopoulos were the only Santa Barbara players to play three sets, teaming up to sweep in doubles. Evan Teufel-Chris Williams and Bill Grokenberger-Danny Diaz both won two sets each before giving way to subs.
“Obviously we had a good day in doubles, we had five teams play very well,” noted Dons head coach Steve Geremia.
Santa Barbara hits the road on Friday to face Dana Hills, which defeated Sinora 17-1, in the second round.
