Bishop Diego’s Sean McIver plated up 33 assists in a 25-21, 25-22, 25-17 sweep of Culver City to open up the Division IV CIF playoffs on Friday night.
Two-thirds of McIver’s sets went to Garrick Vanderfin and Connor MacGillivray, who had 23 kills split between them.
“It was refreshing to see all the work we’d done all week getting ready to play manifest tonight,” said Cardinals head coach Joe Reiken, who now has to get his team ready to play No. 1-seeded Quartz Hill on Tuesday.
“We’re happy to win, but we know we didn’t play our best,” said Reiken, citing too many unforced errors.
Bishop, the Tri-Valley League’s third-place team, improves to 8-6.
