Dons break three school records at prelims

Lolo Blair had an outstanding day, breaking Santa Barbara High’s school record in the 100 backstroke for fifth place and taking sixth in the 200 free at Wednesday’s CIF swimming prelims at Mt. SAC. Fellow USC Trojan-recruit Lindsay Parrish was third in the 50 free and 5th in the 100 butterfly.

Karl Boscacci also broke a Dons record in the 500 free and took 11th in the 200 free. Jeff Churchman broke a 24-year-old school record to take ninth place in the 100 backstroke.

All eight Dos Pueblos girls swimmers made it through to the CIF finals in what coach Danelle Little called “the fastest prelims I’ve ever seen.”

“I expected it to be quick, but not necessarily this quick,” said Little. “But our girls were all swimming best times and I’m proud of them.”

The Chargers’ 200 medley relay team of Rayanne Nguyen, Sami Hill, Emily Rose-Williams and Michelle Dockendorf took sixth place with a mark of 1:49.67, while Rose-Williams picked up a top-8 finish by placing 7th in the 50 free with a time of 24.25 seconds.

The top eight finishers in the prelims compete against one another on Friday at Mt. SAC, while the ninth-16th placers compete in a separate heat.

“I think our relay team is definitely capable of finishing in the top five, and anything can happen for Emily because it’s the 50 free,” said Little.

Laguna Blanca’s three-person aquatics program had a great day in the pool, as each Owl swimmer placed better than their seeding. Bryson Alef took second (1:01.75) in the 100 breaststroke and fifth (50.10) in the 100 freestyle, and freshman Milo Filip was eight in the 500 free, clocking in at 4:08.60. Freshman Lauren Alef was 10th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.
