SBCC narrowly missed qualifying for the Southern Cal Regional baseball playoffs on Sunday. After winning just one of their first 10 WSC North games, the Vaqueros (24-19, 11-14) captured 10 of their last 15.
They finished 20th in Southern Cal, two spots shy of a playoff spot.
“Going 1-9 in the first part of league was too much to overcome,” said coach Teddy Warrecker, whose finished on an 8-3 run.
Sophomores Corey Krupp and Blake McFarland were first-team All-WSC North selections. Krupp, who plays center field, was a unanimous choice after hitting .347 in conference with two homers, 15 RBIs and 22 stolen bases. He set a new single-season school record with 34 steals in 37 attempts.
McFarland, a 6-6 right-hander, went 5-3 in league with a 2.84 ERA. He had two complete games and struck out 44 in 57 innings.
Zack Chavez (.279 avg., 3 HRs, 21 RBIs), Aaron Bauman (.253, 3 HRs, 21 RBIs, 8 stolen bases) and relief pitcher Zack Edgington (2-2, 3.06 ERA, 28 K in 32 inn.) were second-team choices.
Honorable mention went to Jacob Trimble, who hit .390 in 10 WSC starts; Andrew Leighty and pitcher Connor Whalen.
